This introductory acting class is designed for people from all walks of life who are interested in exploring basic acting skills, as well as developing essential life skills such as confidence, focus, critical thinking, and public speaking.  The class introduces students to acting techniques through exercises, monologues, and scene study. The class will give special attention to strengthening skills in physical presence and character development.   

Some rehearsal outside of class time may be required. Class size is limited to 12 students.

This introductory acting class is a weekly 2-hour course focusing on the basic techniques of acting and performance, such as creating intention, connecting with another actor, building a character, improvisation, characterization, and emotional connection. Our practical projects will vary from monologues to improvisation and scene study, focusing on each student’s needs and strengths. Actors will encounter works that present unique challenges in terms of language, physicality, characterization, style, content, and text analysis. The class will fuse acting, voice, and movement into a comprehensive unit by approaching the text simultaneously from these three perspectives. Some rehearsal outside of class time may be required. Looking to hone your dance skills and build your musical theatre dance repertoire? This class is for you! Led by resident company member Taavon Gamble, this course will provide some helpful hints for keeping up and standing out in any dance room. In a high energy and performance/character building class, this course will celebrate the foundational aspects of musical theatre dancing through Broadway inspired choreography. This class is recommended for individuals with previous dance experience at an intermediate level.

Before an actor begins telling stories in front of audiences, they must learn to be comfortable on stage. This class teaches students how to establish presence and confidence onstage. The progression begins with voice and movement exercises to build a foundational vocabulary, followed by activities in improvisation, clowning, physical acting, and scene study. The class culminates in monologue presentations that play to each student’s individual needs and strengths. Students of all abilities are encouraged to attend.
