Trinity Rep offers acting classes for students in grades K-12 at all experience levels. These courses are process-based, focusing on acting techniques through the lens of scene study, playwriting, collaborative creation, and/or improvisation. Each class ends in a small informal sharing of student work for family and friends.

Before an actor begins telling stories in front of audiences, they must learn to be comfortable on stage. This class teaches students how to establish presence and confidence onstage. The progression begins with voice and movement exercises to build a foundational vocabulary, followed by activities in improvisation, clowning, physical acting, and scene study. The class culminates in monologue presentations that play to each student’s individual needs and strengths. Students of all abilities are encouraged to attend.  

Class size is limited to 12 students.

This introductory acting class is designed for people from all walks of life who are interested in exploring basic acting skills, as well as developing essential life skills such as confidence, focus, critical thinking, and public speaking.  The class introduces students to acting techniques through exercises, monologues, and scene study. The class will give special attention to strengthening skills in physical presence and character development.   

Some rehearsal outside of class time may be required. Class size is limited to 12 students.

Our practical projects will vary from monologues to improvisation and scene study, focusing on each student’s needs and strengths. Actors will encounter works that present unique challenges in terms of language, physicality, characterization, style, content, and text analysis. The class will fuse acting, voice, and movement into a comprehensive unit by approaching the text simultaneously from these three perspectives. Some rehearsal outside of class time may be required. This 8-week course is designed for adult actors of all experience levels who want to strengthen their audition skills and develop greater confidence as performers. The first half of the course will focus on audition techniques and what goes into the audition process (callbacks, resume, headshots, self-tape, etc.) The second half will focus on the acting portion in the form of contrasting monologues and sides. Through weekly exercises and performance practice, participants will learn how to make strong, authentic choices and bring greater specificity and presence to their auditions.
