Young Critics Corner (Grades 8 - 12)

What is the role of a theater critic? Workshop sessions will explore that question and introduce young journalists to professional theater, while instructing them how to observe, analyze, construct, write and refine a theater critique. Students will have the opportunity to attend a rehearsal, a technical rehearsal, and a performance of a selected Trinity Rep production as a means to recognize the contributions of the playwright, director, actors, designers and technical crew. With the focus on strengthening their analytical thinking and writing skills, students will begin to develop their writers’ voice and perspective, understand the importance of criticism, and compose a critical response as a knowledgeable “next generation” theater critic. This year’s class will focus on Trinity Rep’s production of La Cage Aux Folles, culimating in their own review of the show.
