10 Weeks with August Wilson: The American Century Cycle
with Michelle Cruz
In this discussion and playreading group, participants will explore a different play from August Wilson's American Century Cycle each week. Community Engagement Director Michelle Cruz will lead a conversation about the context, themes, rich history, music and language of Wilson's plays. In order, the plays are: Gem of the Ocean, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Piano Lesson, Seven Guitars, Fences, Two Trains Running, Jitney, King Hedley II, and Radio Golf. We encourage students to purchase these plays from Black-owned bookstores such as these or find it at your local library. This class will be held on the Zoom platform - video and audio connection are necessary. We are holding spaces for participants who are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. Interested BIPOC individuals should email email@example.com for more information before registering.
